E-Bikes and a major energy efficiency program to be added soon to EBCE's suite of programs
EBCE is excited for 2023 and the launch of many new programs. We are currently soliciting proposals for two new programs: the Ride Electric E-Bike Adoption Program and a Commercial Pay-for-Performance Energy Efficiency Program and Additional Grid Services Program.
The E-Bike Adoption Program will be a 3 year, $6 million project to encourage local adoption of electric bicycles. Most e-bikes travel up to 20 miles per hour for 40-50 miles on one charge. They provide a low cost, energy efficient, and emission-free mode of transportation, not to mention they’re fun and healthy, too! The program will consist of a lending and incentive program and will be available throughout EBCE’s service territory in Alameda County and the City of Tracy, as well as the City of Stockton, which will begin receiving electricity service from EBCE in 2024. The two-prong program will allow for customers to test electric bikes to see if they meet their daily transportation needs, and then take advantage of the incentives to help purchase an e-bike of their own. All of EBCE’s residential customers will be eligible, and 40% of the incentives budget will be reserved for income-qualified customers on CARE electricity rates, ensuring equitable access to the program. Learn more about the solicitation and program here.
EBCE’s Commercial Energy Efficiency Program will be our largest ever energy efficiency initiative. The program, recently approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), will be funded through the Public Purpose Programs surcharge and is expected to save over 9 million kilowatt-hours in its first year–which is roughly equivalent to the total annual electricity consumed by 2,000 average homes in EBCE's service area. The program will target energy reductions for commercial customers during peak hours (4-9pm) when energy is both most expensive and carbon intensive. The program will include innovative electrification measures and load shifting strategies and the savings will be measured at the meter, which is crucial for program reliability. Learn more about the Energy Efficiency Program here.
