This month we launched Health-e Home, a program expanding access to home electrification, and are preparing for the October Renewable 100 transitions in Berkeley, Dublin, Emeryville, and San Leandro. If you're a commercial customer in any of these areas, or a residential customer in Emeryville, read on for information and webinars regarding the switch to 100% renewable energy in your community. Our teams are also beginning to look toward the future and how the Inflation Reduction Act will help our community transition to clean and efficient energy.

Partnering with BlocPower & Revalue.io, EBCE paves the way for income qualifying households to finance clean energy upgrades
EBCE's new Health-e Home program provides low- to moderate-income homeowners with affordable financing options to gain access to the health and safety benefits of transitioning to clean energy and electric appliances. This includes:
- Energy efficient whole home upgrades including the installation of clean heating, cooling, hot water systems, and electric appliances.
- Electrification measures including everything from heat pump water heaters and induction cooktops to window treatments that improve air quality, weatherization, and mold and mildew remediation.
- Health-e Home also supports health and safety improvements such as wiring upgrades and roofing repairs—all to help reduce indoor air pollution, increase resiliency during extreme weather events, and potentially increase home value.
This is not a free program. Health-e Home provides options to gain access to the health and safety benefits of transitioning to whole home electrification upgrades that typically require high upfront costs. Spreading the cost of your home upgrades over the life of improvements (up to 15 years) can help make projects affordable. This income-based program is available to EBCE customers who earn up to 120% of area-median income. Transitioning older homes to clean energy has never been easier!

EBCE's Scott Hagerty Wind Energy Center in Livermore, CA.
Commercial Customers in Berkeley, Dublin, Emeryville, and San Leandro, and Residential Customers in Emeryville will be transitioned onto Renewable 100 service beginning 10/1/2022
This October we’re welcoming more cities and customers onto Renewable 100 service. EBCE sent letters to commercial customers in Berkeley, Dublin, Emeryville, and San Leandro at the beginning of the month to provide information about this change. Residential customers in Emeryville will receive notices in mid-to-late August and early October. All impacted customers will receive a minimum of two notices from August through October.
Renewable 100 is EBCE’s 100% California solar and wind power service and costs ¾ cent per kilowatt-hour above PG&E rates. That’s about $3-5 more per month for a typical home in these cities. Customers can also choose EBCE’s Bright Choice service, which is priced 3% below PG&E rates. Customers who participate in CARE, FERA, and Medical Baseline programs will remain on Bright Choice service automatically, but can still choose Renewable 100. If you’d like to learn more, visit the landing page for each city below.
EBCE will also host webinars for commercial and residential customers to review the basics about our service and answer any questions.
Webinars Residential: August 31 @ 6pm & September 14 @ 6pm Commercial: August 23 @ 12pm & September 13 @ 9am

EBCE joined 60+ climate, building decarbonization, energy, & affordable housing groups in a letter calling for the passage of the IRA
A big win for energy security and climate change investments
On Sunday, August 7, the Inflation Reduction Act officially passed in the U.S. Senate with Vice President (and former East Bay resident) Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote. In the week leading up to the vote, EBCE drafted a joint letter from 10 CCAs and joined 60+ climate, building decarbonization, energy, & affordable housing groups in another letter calling for passage of the bill. Next, the Inflation Reduction Act will head to the House floor for a vote.
The bill includes many transformative items, including an historic investment toward mitigating the effects of climate change (the single largest climate investment in U.S. history, by far!). The bill will put the U.S. on a path to roughly 40% emissions reduction by 2030.
The bill will provide a range of incentives toward energy efficient and clean appliances and vehicles, as well as invest in clean energy manufacturing and the entire clean energy supply chain in the U.S. A particularly exciting piece of the bill for us at EBCE is that it will allow public sector and not-for-profit electricity suppliers to directly monetize renewable energy tax credits instead of having to rely on contracting with a privately owned company. This means that EBCE can pursue full project ownership on renewable power plants. For more on this, check out this Twitter thread from EBCE's CEO, Nick Chaset.
