EBCE CEO Nick Chaset posted this on LinkedIn on January 19, and it does a great job of summarizing some recent notable activity:
2022 news has by and large been a bit grim. Didn't help that I watched 'Don't Look Up' on NYE. But days like this one are reminders that there is real hope in the fight for cleaner, more affordable and more accessible energy systems. This evening, East Bay Community Energy approved two amazing projects with veritable superstars of clean energy innovation.
First, we are launching a partnership with Donnel Baird and his electrification innovation platform BlocPower to electrify homes across the East Bay. We are providing $1m in low cost debt and $400k in customer grants to help make clean energy and breathable air accessible to low and moderate income customers.
Second, our Board approved a resolution to enter into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Fervo Energy, one of the leaders in the development of next generation geothermal energy generation technology. This particular PPA is important because it's the first one to be signed by a California energy supplier to meet the State's aggressive 2026 clean, firm power requirements.

Let’s face it, battery storage isn’t the most photogenic energy source. However, it is critical to enabling EBCE to meet our commitment to serving all of our customers with 100% clean energy by 2030. With that in mind, we are thrilled to share that our 10 MW / 40 MWh Lithium-Ion battery energy storage system developed in partnership with Convergent Energy + Power is now operating in Lemoore, California. EBCE has five additional solar and/or storage projects slated to go online this year. Details here.

Many customers are noticing higher-than-expected energy bills right now. PG&E increased electricity delivery rates, and natural gas prices have increased last month (January 2022). Another rate increase will go into effect in March 2022. Please contact our call center and we'll happily go over the details of your bill with you. Representatives are standing by from 9 am - 5 pm on weekdays at 1-833-699-EBCE (3223).

Most homes in California burn natural gas or propane for space heating, water heating, and cooking. These gases—like crude oil or coal—are fossil fuels, which significantly contribute to climate change and local air pollution.
The “Switch is On” program was created to encourage Californians to swap out their old gas appliances with new, energy efficient ones that are better for their health, convenience, and the environment.
The goal is to educate, inspire and support Californians who want to join the movement to electrify their homes as well as promote regional and statewide incentives for electrification.
The “Switch is On” offers several incentives including one-on-one advisors, vetted contractors, rebates, and other resources. Learn more about rebates for clean energy appliances by clicking here.
