Dr. Lucy Jones is the founder of the Dr. Lucy Jones Center for Science and Society. She is the author of The Big Ones (Doubleday, April 2018) and is also a Research Associate at the Seismological Laboratory of Caltech, a post she has held since 1984. Working with both the public and private sectors, Dr. Jones seeks to increase communities’ ability to adapt and be resilient to the dynamic changes of the world around them.

Orange County Poet Laureate

Aligning with National Poetry Month OC Public Libraries is pleased to announce a partnership with @LibroMobile Arts Co-Op to launch the inaugural OC Poet Laureate (OC-PL) and OC Youth Poet Laureate (OCYPL) programs in Orange County!

Aiming to reflect regional demographics, these programs are intended to inspire and promote cultural connections and community partnerships by celebrating local poets using their powerful voices to impact social change.

One OC Poet Laureate and one OC Youth Poet Laureate will be selected for the 2021-2022 program year. Inaugural applications for the OC-PL and OCYPL programs will open on April 15, 2021 and be accepted through July 15, 2021. Announcement of the 2021-2022 OC Poet Laureate Appointments will be made on August 15, 2021.

Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes by Jonathan Auxier

This science-fiction read is plot-driven, suspenseful, and attention grabbing as it follows 13 year-old Atticus “Tick” Higginbottom. Tick is a bit of a loner, he gets harassed by bullies, prefers to be with his family and the computer and just really wishes he can be a bit braver or… at least… a bit more interesting. When Tick receives a mysterious letter from Alaska, he reads that he can join hundreds of kids in solving a puzzle to venture into alternative realities or… just simply burn the letter and be on his way to a normal regular life. Thinking that it is nothing but a joke, Tick starts to see strange things that may be clues to the puzzle the letter dared him to unravel.
