Civic Center Campus Expansion
The City of Ontario began work on the Civic Center Campus Expansion last month, a part of the broader Ontario Plan to revitalize downtown. This effort envisions a modernized Civic Center Campus that will contribute to the reactivation of downtown, attracting more activity in downtown and optimizing available space.
The first project is underway - A storm drain line on D Street, between Cherry Avenue and Sultana Avenue, is being relocated and is tentatively scheduled to be completed later this month. Please plan ahead and expect delays. Thank you for your patience.
We have an exciting lineup of projects in the pipeline, with more to follow soon. Stay tuned for further updates as we'll share additional information on our website.

West Valley Connector
Preconstruction activities are underway on the West Valley Connector (WVC) project including property acquisition and demolition in anticipation for the start of construction in December 2023. The 100% zero-emission Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system is the first stage of the San Bernardino County zero-emission Bus Initiative and second BRT route in San Bernardino County.
Phase I of the project is 19 miles and will upgrade a portion of existing Route 61, which runs along Holt Boulevard, adding approximately 3.5 miles as center running, dedicated bus-only lanes. There will be 21 stations in Phase I that will provide an improved transit connection to Ontario International Airport (ONT) and link ONT, two Metrolink lines (San Bernardino and Riverside) and multiple major activity centers along the route.

Halloween Safety Tips
Ontario residents, here are some tips from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help you and your loved ones enjoy a safe and happy Halloween.
Costumes
- Wear costumes that say “flame resistant” on the label. Use flame-resistant fabrics such as polyester or nylon if you make your costume.
- Wear bright, reflective costumes or add strips of reflective tape to be more visible; make sure the costumes aren’t so long that you’re in danger of tripping.
- Wear makeup and hats rather than costume masks that can obscure your vision.
- Test the makeup you plan to use at least 24-48 hours in advance. Put a small amount on the arm of the person who will be wearing it. If a rash, redness, swelling, or other signs of irritation develop where the makeup was applied, that’s a sign of a possible allergy.
- Vibrantly colored makeup is popular at Halloween. Check the FDA’s list of color additives to see if the colors are FDA-approved. If they aren’t approved for their intended use, don’t use them. This is especially important for colored makeup around the eyes.
- Don’t wear decorative (colored) contact lenses that appear to change how your eyes look due to the risk of eye injury unless you have seen an eye care professional for a proper fitting and have been given instructions for how to use the lenses. See Eye Safety below for more information.
Safe Treats
- Don’t eat candy until it has been inspected at home.
- Eat a snack before heading out to avoid the temptation of nibbling on a treat before it has been inspected.
- In case of a food allergy, check the label to ensure the allergen isn’t present. Tell children not to accept — or eat — anything that isn’t commercially wrapped.
- Parents of very young children should remove any choking hazards such as gum, peanuts, hard candies, or small toys from the Halloween bags.
- Inspect commercially wrapped treats for signs of tampering, such as an unusual appearance or discoloration, tiny pinholes, or tears in wrappers. Throw away anything that looks suspicious.
And a reminder to drive slow, be alert, and don’t drive distracted. Be especially careful in residential areas. Have a safe and happy Halloween, Ontario!

Flushing wipes, diapers, tissues, paper towels, or any products other than toilet paper can cause raw sewage to back up into your home. Please only flush paper.
