A Message from the City Manager
It’s too darned hot for budgets, policies, or management parables. Let’s just barbeque, have a cold drink, and try to stay cool. Here are some summer songs to help!
-
Summertime, Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong. A lolling and lazy song, it perfectly matches the desire to do nothing when the mercury starts rising.
-
Heatwave, Martha & the Vandellas. The Motown hit machine is damn near perfect with this soul classic.
-
Too Hot, Kool & the Gang. Indeed…sometimes it is just too hot to do just about anything that doesn’t have to get done today.
-
Summertime, Summertime, Nocera. Hey, what do you want from me?!?! I was a teenager in the 80s… I can almost taste the Seagram’s Golden Wine Coolers now!!!
-
Summer, War. A great song for grillin’ and chillin’. Family get-togethers, kids playing, carne asada smelling just right, tia’s playing cards and chatting, tio’s cracking cold beers and throwing horseshoes. This song is the nearest thing to a time machine back to the 70’s that I can think of.
-
One Summer Night, The Danleers. Classic rock ‘n’ roll… Who hasn’t fallen in love at summer get-togethers?
-
I Never Dreamed You’d Leave in Summer, Stevie Wonder. And then gotten your heart broken just a few weeks later?
-
Under the Boardwalk, The Drifters. Escaping the heat can lead to lots of amorous adventures!
-
Summer Rain, U2. Underrated song from Ireland’s greatest rock band.
-
Summertime Rolls, Jane’s Addiction. A youthful midyear reminiscence for all of you grungy 1990s folks. Definitely not something for the KROQ airwaves, but Jane’s Addiction was a great – if alternative and experimental – band!
-
Summertime, Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff. Before the slap, before serious acting, before Carlton and Bel Air, Will Smith and his DJ dropped this classic for cool young people everywhere just looking to hang out and have fun.
-
Summertime Blues, Eddie Cochran. A national anthem for anyone who was denied the most epic summer ever by parents, bosses or even Congress!
-
Boys of Summer, Don Henley. Edgy and ominous, this song evokes the mixed emotions of something ending (like summer and all of its youthful playfulness).
-
The Summer Wind, Frank Sinatra. The Chairman waxes eloquent and wistful about the summer love lost. Definitely a song for the end of the night, when the party is winding down.
Sorry folks, but that’s it for me…at least until football season starts again and the Steelers shock the world!!!
Enjoy your summer. Stay safe and cool; and spend time with your families and friends.

 Hello Team Ontario!
Do you have friends or people in your network that would be a great fit for one of our open positions? Invite them to come work for the City and earn some extra cash!
Our City is growing, and our need for talented people is greater than ever! We know that you, our current employees, know best who our ideal candidates are and can bring our Talent Acquisition to the next level. Because of that, the City is now offering an Employee Referral Bonus for every successfully hired and onboarded employee that was referred by one of our own.
For you to better understand how the process will work, here are a few details:
- The referred employee must put your name on the “How did you hear about this job” portion of their application (No exceptions!)
- Once the employee is hired, work with the HR Liaison for your department to process the request for payout. (Instructions will be sent to all HR liaisons)
- After 30 days of your referral’s first day of employment, the request will be paid out and included with your normal paycheck.
- $250 for any Full-Time position referred, and $150 for any Part-Time position referred
- Some restrictions apply**
We encourage all employees to regularly visit our careers page to check for any new job opportunities that the City may have.
If you have any questions about our new program, please don’t hesitate to contact the STAEE Team via email or phone (x2730) at any time! Thank you all in advance for your help, and happy recruiting!!!
