Point-in-Time Count Volunteers Needed
All year long, outreach teams in the City of Ontario connect homeless people to resources, services and housing. In just one morning, you can help them by surveying your homeless neighbors.
On Thursday, February 24, 2022, the City of Ontario’s Continuum of Care will support the County of San Bernardino's annual Homeless Point-in-Time Count and volunteers are needed! If you are available from 5 AM to 10 AM the morning of January 27, please consider signing up.
The Point-in-Time Count captures a snapshot of a single night of homelessness by counting unsheltered persons in the early morning. This count helps the City of Ontario get resources to assist those who are or are at risk of becoming homeless.
If you are available to volunteer or would like more information, please register here and select Ontario as your volunteer location. Volunteer teams will adhere to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 safety guidelines. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided to all volunteers.
To register, please visit link.sbcounty.gov/PITC.
New Statewide Mandatory Organics Waste Collection
California adopted Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) which requires communities to reduce organic waste disposal, such as food waste, by 75% by 2025. To achieve this mandate, the City of Ontario’s Integrated Waste Department is starting a Food Waste Recycling Program.
SB 1383 applies to all residents (single-family homes and apartments/condos) and businesses.
How does it impact me as a resident? Starting January 1,2022 your existing green waste bin will also be used to collect food waste.
How does it impact me as a business? If you own a business or apartment/condo complex (of five units or more), you are required to:
- Divert organic materials from the landfill by subscribing to and participating in the organics collection service via City of Ontario OR Self-haul organic waste to a specified composting facility, community composting program, or other collection activity or programs.
- Provide collection containers for organic waste and recyclables to employees, contractors, tenants, and customers
- Annually provide educational information about the legal requirements to compost and recycle including how to properly sort between the three waste streams. The City of Ontario can provide educational materials for your employees and apartment/condo residents.
To learn more about SB 1383, visit OntarioCA.gov/IntegratedWaste. For questions, please contact the Integrated Waste Department Customer Service Department at (909) 395-2050 or email customerservice@ontarioca.gov.
