The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is seeking diverse voices for our new Community Advisory Working Group (CAWG) to support the implementation of MTC’s Community Action Resource and Empowerment (CARE) Program. This is a paid opportunity for leaders and staff of community-based organizations (CBOs) and/or community leaders to help shape transportation and funding decisions that will directly impact your community’s well-being.

The CARE Program is a funding, technical assistance and capacity-building program to develop community and multi-sector partnerships and support community-led solutions that improve livability for all people in the Bay Area.

Key Features of Participating in the CAWG

  • Help determine funding priorities and application criteria for a new grant program called Power-building and Engagement (Pb + E) that aims to grow community leadership and foster inclusive collaboration between CBOs and public agencies to enable projects impacting mobility and community well-being.
  • Represent your community's needs and priorities on housing, transportation and climate action funding decisions.
  • Receive a $500 stipend for your participation.

Who Can Apply

Community-based organization representatives and/or community leaders serving one or more of the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties. Applicants should have experience and knowledge working on issues related to housing, transportation and/or climate change. Individuals who are already involved in another MTC committee are not eligible to apply. MTC staff will select 13-15 members representing diverse geographic regions and Equity Priority Communities.

Key Details

  • Application Period: Tuesday, March 18–Tuesday, April 8, 2025
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 15 hours over three months. This will include participation in two group meetings, as well as interviews and community outreach, as needed. All engagement will be virtual.
  • Timeline: April-June 2025
  • Compensation: If selected, $500 stipend for participating
  • Outcomes:
  • Provide input on the program, including goals, eligible projects and outreach strategies
  • Support outreach to amplify the reach and impact of Pb+E funding
  • Advise MTC on criteria/metrics for PB+E funding
