511 Adds Emergency Text Alerts
511 SF Bay this summer launched a text-based mass notification feature for travelers in the nine-county Bay Area, known as 511 Emergency Alerts. This new service will inform users who opt in to receive alert messages of transportation emergencies, including freeway closures and severe transit disruptions. Sign up for the alerts by texting “511Alert” to 888777. MORE

Bridge Tolls Ease East Bay Commuters’ Parking Crunch
This July, MTC awarded $9.3 million in Regional Measure 2 toll dollars to advance new commuter parking projects in Alameda County. $7 million will go to the Alameda County Transportation Commission to help fund a new parking garage near the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station, and $2.3 million will go to MTC’s Bay Bridge Forward initiative to complete a trio of commuter parking lots at Oakland and Albany locations served by AC Transit’s transbay buses. The California High Speed Rail Authority released its preferred alternatives for routes in Northern California this July, detailing how the system would connect the Central Valley to the Bay Area. Richmond-San Rafael Bridge Joint Repair

MTC High School Interns: Class of 2019
For the 19th year in a row, MTC set up high school interns from all over the Bay Area with paid summer jobs in transit and transportation agencies in or near their hometowns. This year’s cohort of 30 students may soon be headed to college, but for many of them, this is their very first job. The internship program was created in 2000 to reach students who would not typically consider careers in the field of transportation, especially women and minorities.
