The inaugural Bay Area Metro Awards—a new awards program launched jointly by MTC and ABAG—were presented on June 6 at a ceremony in Oakland. The awards recognized 13 people, projects, organizations and local governments working to ease the Bay Area’s housing crisis, improve its transportation system, or make the nine-county region more resilient. MTC   Protection, Production & Preservation: MTC Takes Action on Housing Bills
The 2019 California legislative cycle is in full swing, and MTC has taken positions on a number of bills that could substantially affect the Bay Area housing landscape if passed by the Legislature and signed by Governor Newsom this year. MTC   Bay Area Bike Challenge Pedals across Nine Counties
Almost 350 teams from across the Bay Area competed in the 2019 Bay Area Bike Challenge, and the winners are in! Riders from the Lam Research Corporation in Fremont and Labcyte Corporation in San Jose took the top honors in this friendly competition in partnership with Bay Area Bike to Work Day. MORE
 
 
MTC   Salesforce Transit Center Poised for Reopening
The MTC-assembled expert Peer Review Panel that has been investigating the fracturing of two girders at the Salesforce Transit Center has concluded that the steel structure is sound for continued service. The Transbay Joint Powers Authority, which owns and operates the Salesforce Transit Center, has announced that the facility will reopen to the public on July 1 at 6 a.m. MORE
 
 
MTC   Richmond-San Rafael Bridge Joint Replacement Project Nears Finish, Captured in Photos
Construction crews have now replaced 25 of the 31 deck joints on the westbound upper deck of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, and the project remains on track for completion next month. Acclaimed Berkeley photographer Karl Nielsen captured some stunning nighttime shots of the bridge and the repair work this month. STORY | PHOTOS
