Scott Haggerty Elected MTC Chair

  Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty (left) was unanimously elected to chair the Metropolitan Transportation Commission for a two-year term running through February 2021. Commissioners also elected Napa County Supervisor Alfredo Pedroza to serve as MTC’s vice chair for the next two years. More

MTC   Public Invited to Share Visions for Bay Area’s Future
Planners from MTC and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) invite members of the public to share their visions and policy priorities for the Bay Area at a series of public workshops throughout March, as part of the agencies’ Horizon initiative. MTC   MTC Chief Urges Much Bigger Federal Role in Transportation Investment
In testimony before the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on March 13, MTC Executive Director Therese W. McMillan urged Congress to reauthorize the 2015 Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act and to increase federal investment in transportation in the nation’s metropolitan areas. MORE
 
 
MTC   Southbound I-880 in Hayward to be Closed Seven Nights This Month
To accommodate installation of new sign structures for the ongoing 880 Express Lanes project, MTC — in partnership with Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol —will conduct full closures of all southbound lanes on I-880 in Hayward (at West A Street, and between Winton Avenue and Highway 92). MTC   Highway 37 Issues Coming into Focus
Flooding is again bedeviling Highway 37 in the North Bay, but a plan to improve the stretch of roadway is in the works. Several agencies are banding together to work on a new "Resilient SR 37 Program" to improve the 20-mile corridor from I-80 to US 101. MORE
 
 
MTC   Joint Replacement on Richmond-San Rafael Bridge
Work is scheduled for the next several months to replace 31 more joints on the upper deck of the 63-year-old Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Due to this work, the targeted opening date for a bicycle/pedestrian path on the bridge’s upper deck has been pushed back from this spring to this summer. MORE
 
 
MTC   Half-Light: A Bay Trail Art Show
Photographs by San Francisco photographer Kurt Schwabe are on display in the atrium lobby of the Bay Area Metro Center. Schwabe embarked on a month-long journey to trek the entire route of the Bay Trail on foot, taking these stunning photos along the way. Titled “Half-Light: A Study of the San Francisco Bay Trail,” the show is open to the public weekdays and Saturdays through September 27. MORE
