Get Ready for November 3, 2026 General Election |
|
|
Registered voters across Santa Clara County have received their vote by mail packets ahead of the November 3, 2026 General Election.
Voters can return their completed ballot by mail; dropping it off by 8:00 p.m. on election night in one of several ballot-drop boxes that are placed in Mountain View, including outside Mountain View City Hall and throughout Santa Clara County; or vote in person at a vote center. Residents who are eligible to vote but missed the deadline can register and vote at any of the accessible in-person voting locations. To locate a ballot drop box or vote center near you, visit SCCvote.org.
Mountain View residents’ ballots will include a City Council race and two ballot measures. City of Mountain View Councilmembers are elected at-large and voters will be choosing from qualified candidates to fill three open seats, each with a four-year term. The ballot will also include City Charter amendments (Measure E) and a Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) revenue measure (Measure F).

This is the start of Flood Preparedness Week! Recent winters, intense storms, and widespread flooding showed that floods can happen in every corner of the state. As climate-driven extremes make bigger storms more likely, Californians should be prepared for flooding anytime and anywhere.
Keep yourself and your family flood ready with these tips:
- Make sure you have non-perishable emergency supplies and a disaster supply kit.
- Have an evacuation plan in place for you and your pets.
- Establish a family communication plan for emergencies.
- Sign up for local wireless emergency alerts sent by authorized government agencies, such as the County of Santa Clara’s AlertSCC emergency alert system.
- Talk to your insurance agent about purchasing or renewing flood insurance.
- Keep important documents in a waterproof container and move valuables to higher levels.
- Purchase a weather radio to listen for emergency updates and weather forecasts
Receive up-to-date weather information and alerts during a natural disaster by downloading the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio App from your mobile app store.

City Prepares for El Niño
|
|
|
The City of Mountain View is preparing for potential impacts from an El Niño that the National Weather Service is forecasting will intensify during the fall and winter of 2026 and 2027. During strong El Niño seasons, warmer ocean waters increase atmospheric moisture, elevating the risk of prolonged heavy rainfall, creek and tidal flooding, and increasing the likelihood of fallen trees and snapped branches.
Free Sandbags
Sand and sandbags are available at no charge to Mountain View residents and business owners:
- Location: City’s Municipal Operations Center — 231 N. Whisman Rd.
- Details: Available 24/7 during storm season. Please bring your own shovel to fill bags.
Clear Drains and Gutters
- Clear fallen leaves from rain gutters, property drains, and nearby street drain grates.
- Place garden debris and leaves into your green compost cart for weekly collection.
- Help street sweepers collect litter and leaves that fall in the roadway by moving parked cars and removing basketball hoops. Street sweepers can pick up leaves that fall in the roadway if they are no more than 3 inches deep and 3 feet wide.
Power Outages
- Power outages may occur during a storm. Keep a flashlight and extra batteries handy.
- For information on power outages, visit the PG&E Outage Center.
Sign Up for Emergency Alerts
-
Register for AlertSCC, Santa Clara County's official emergency warning system, to receive location-specific notifications on your mobile device, landline, or email.

Mercy Street Road Work Alert |
|
|
The City of Mountain View is notifying residents and motorists of road work that will require temporary road closures and on-street parking restrictions for Mercy Street between Bryant Street and Shoreline Boulevard in Downtown Mountain View.
PG&E is scheduled to continue work through Friday, Nov. 20, which is connected with the construction of the Corso affordable housing development.
What to expect:
- Temporary road closures (1-lane closures; no full street closures are anticipated)
- On-street parking restrictions (some on-street parking spaces along Mercy Street will be temporarily unavailable)
- Construction noise associated with open trenching in certain sections
The Mountain View City Hall and Mountain View Public Library parking garages will remain accessible during these periods. However, drivers will need to approach the garages from the Franklin/Shoreline side of Mercy Street and then exit onto Mercy Street toward Castro Street. There will be detour signs and flaggers during these periods.
The City appreciates the public’s patience as the project is underway. Drivers are reminded to slow down, stay alert, and obey signage while traveling through work zones.
