Receives Good Governance Award

The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) has named the City of Mountain View’s City Manager, Kimbra McCarthy, as the very first recipient of the Good Governance Award, recognizing exceptional professional achievement and a distinguished commitment to strengthening local government and the communities it serves.
This award highlights an exemplary partnership between an elected body and city manager who have made outstanding contributions to ethical leadership, transparent decision-making, accountability, and effective governance in local government. The award also highlights the Mountain View City Council’s commitment to civility and good governance.

AI Translation Service Pilot for Select
Public Meetings Underway

The City of Mountain View is piloting an AI translation service during public meetings in Council Chambers at Mountain View City Hall.
The Wordly system provides real-time translation and captions during meetings. The public can follow along in their preferred language by reading on their own device or listening with a headset. Wordly is now available for the following public meetings:
- City Council
- Environmental Planning Commission
- Rental Housing Committee
In addition to AI translation for over 60 different languages, in-person interpretation services remain available in Spanish and Chinese for City Council meetings upon request. Requests for in-person interpretation must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office no later than 5:00 p.m. two business days before the meeting by phone at 650-903-6304 or by email at City.Clerk@mountainview.gov.
City staff will provide information about the pilot for this new AI translation service through outreach, including hands-on assistance at some public meetings.
The City’s goal for the Wordly pilot is to assess the benefits of AI translation in promoting language accessibility and better serving Mountain View’s diverse community. For more information about the AI translation service, view the flyer.

Longer Sunday Hours at the Library |

In response to community feedback, the Mountain View Public Library has added two more library hours on Sundays.
The Library is now open from noon to 6:00 p.m. every Sunday, giving residents more time to use computers to access the internet and print documents, sit at comfortable chairs and tables to read books and periodicals, meet and collaborate in study rooms, and browse for materials to borrow.
The added hours also offer more opportunities for teens to find community by reading, studying, and playing games together in the Teen Zone. In the Children’s Room, families can participate in enriching activities that build literacy skills and help form connections with other Mountain View families and resources.
All are welcome to explore the Library’s free services and opportunities to connect, create, and learn.

City's Time Capsule Unveiling Canceled |

The City of Mountain View will no longer hold a ceremonial unveiling of the 1976 time capsule in September. This is due to the poor condition of nearly all the items contained in the time capsule.
In preparation for the anticipated event, City staff recently excavated the time capsule, buried 50 years ago in Pioneer Park near the Mountain View Public Library. They discovered water had leaked into the time capsule, causing extensive damage to nearly all the items. Due to the severity of the damage, which included mold growth, only a few items were salvageable.
Starting the week of Sept. 16, the Mountain View Public Library will display these items from the bicentennial time capsule through Saturday, Oct. 31. The display will include several commemorative coins, a Moffett Field Naval Air Station bicentennial flag, and a replica of the Pioneer Plaque that was sent past Jupiter as part of Pioneer 10, NASA’s first mission to the outer planets, among other items.

Registration is closing soon for this year's Citywide Garage Sale, held at homes throughout Mountain View. Seller registration closes on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Check out the City of Mountain View's new monthly video series called “City in Action.”
The series highlights the variety of services and programs provided by the City across all 13 departments and the employees who deliver them to the Mountain View community. Each episode will spotlight an employee and the work they do for the City.
The latest episode features Housing Director Wayne Chen who provides a brief look into the Housing Department and the exciting new affordable housing projects being developed in Mountain View as they work towards achieving the City's affordable housing initiatives. Watch the second episode online.

Friday nights through September, Downtown Mountain View will pulse with energy as top music acts take the stage at the Civic Center Plaza, 500 Castro St. The next musical act features Latin folk:
