Downtown Entertainment Zone Pilot Program |
|
|
The Downtown Entertainment Zone Pilot Program is a new initiative that would allow the City of Mountain View to create a designated area along Castro Street where people can enjoy alcoholic beverages outdoors during specific, City-organized events. Enabled by a recent California law (SB 969), the 18-month pilot is intended to support a vibrant and active Downtown by allowing patrons to move between participating businesses and nearby public spaces.
To ensure economic benefits remain local, only existing, licensed brick-and-mortar businesses within the zone will be permitted to sell alcohol. The City is working on plans to activate the zone during events surrounding the upcoming World Cup, with the goal of creating an engaging, “festival-like” experience that encourages visitors to stay longer and explore Downtown.
The program includes clear operational and safety requirements, such as defined boundaries, security planning, and age verification, and will be closely monitored throughout the pilot period.
The City Council will take a final vote on the ordinance to create a Downtown Entertainment zone at their April 28 meeting. If approved, the pilot would go into effect 30 days later, on May 28, at which point the City will begin implementing and evaluating the program to inform next steps.

Public Feedback on Homeownership Strategy |
|
|
If you’re looking to buy a home in Mountain View, or if you’ve tried and were unsuccessful in the past, your perspective can help make a difference. The City of Mountain View is currently developing a homeownership strategy to help address housing challenges facing low- and middle-income households in our community.
As part of this process, the City is evaluating the community’s interest in homeownership and the barriers that may make homeownership challenging for families and households. The City invites you to share your experience and to help inform potential solutions that may be considered as part of the strategy.
There are a couple of ways to provide input:
- The City is hosting a virtual meeting on Tuesday, May 5, 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. This will be an opportunity to discuss your interest in homeownership, the challenges you face, and potential ways to make homeownership more feasible. Registration is encouraged but not required.
- You can also give your thoughts through the Low-Income and Middle-Income Homeownership Survey. The survey closes on Friday, May 15.
If you have any questions, contact Jeannette Gutierrez at jeannette.gutierrez@mountainview.gov.
