Task Force 3 Deployment to Texas Assisting with Ongoing Response Efforts
Post Date: 07/09/2025 10:47 a.m.

On Tuesday, July 8, the City of Mountain View Fire Department deployed Fire Captain Tim Houweling and his Human Remains Detection canine, Rory, to Texas with the FEMA Task Force 3, Urban Search & Rescue (US&R) Team. California joins other states from around the country sending highly skilled, specialized teams to Texas to assist with ongoing response efforts related to severe flooding impacts. FEMA is coordinating these efforts and providing federal disaster assistance.

Multiple FEMA US&R Task Forces have been deployed to Texas to assist with search and rescue efforts following severe flooding that occurred over portions of central Texas during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. More than 100 lives were lost, with dozens still missing.

Additional rainfall has the potential to produce new flash, urban, and small stream flooding as significant runoff continues to route into rivers and streams.
