El Camino Real Street Improvement & El Camino Real Ride
El Camino Real is a main thoroughfare that local residents rely on daily. Caltrans, in partnership with the City, is implementing needed physical safety improvements on this major roadway to help ensure bikers, walkers and rollers can get around with ease.
What’s changing on El Camino Real?
- Repaved and repainted street for a smoother, safer travel experience.
- New protected bike lanes for safer biking.
- Flex posts that create a barrier between moving vehicles and bikers.
- Pedestrian-activated traffic signals at three new mid-block crosswalks (Pettis Ave, Bonita Ave, Crestview Dr)

MVLA High School Career & Technical Education (CTE)
👩⚕️ MVLA High School Internships – Healthcare Hosts Needed
On behalf of our colleagues at the Mountain View Los Altos (MVLA) High School District, we're excited to share that MVLA is seeking local healthcare organizations (including eye care, dental, veterinary, and patient care) to host student interns for the 2025–26 school year.
Students in MVLA’s Patient Care CTE program are dual enrolled at Foothill College and need unpaid internships of 2–4 hours/week (minimum 32 hours, Nov–May) to gain real-world experience and earn college credit. This is a great way to help students and the community and to help keep local talent local.
👉 Interested in this or other opportunities to show students careers and career pathways? Contact Lynette Gillson, PhD, at lynette.gillson@mvla.net.

Quarterly Sales Tax Update 4Q-2024
The City recently received the Sales Tax Newsletter for the 4th Quarter of 2024 (October to December). Sales tax data is reported to the City by HdL Companies, the City's sales tax consultant, on a quarterly basis, usually within four months of the quarter end.
Mountain View’s sales tax receipts for Q4 2024 fell 7.3% compared to the same period in 2023 after adjusting for anomalies. While leisure and dining spending drove a 4% increase in restaurant and hotel revenues, and building materials boosted construction-related sales by 7%, other sectors experienced a decline. Business and industry receipts dropped 33.8% due to a business closure, while fuel and service station revenues declined 15.5% with falling oil prices. The city’s share of the countywide use tax pool also shrank by 6.3%. Overall, the cautious holiday spending mirrored regional trends, as Santa Clara County sales rose 2.8% while the Bay Area saw a slight dip.
