Residential Fire in the 1400 Block of Ernestine Lane
Firefighters stop the spread of flames from a garage fire
Residential Fire in the 1400 Block of Ernestine Lane
On Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 3:26 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was received reporting a house fire in the 1400 block of Ernestine Lane. The occupants of the residence self-evacuated before firefighters arrived.
Fire units were dispatched at 3:27 a.m. and arrived on the scene at 3:32 a.m. Units arrived to find smoke coming from the attached garage of a single-story home. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames with a fire-attack hose line, preventing the fire from spreading further into the house.
Firefighters performed an extensive overhaul of the garage by cutting open the walls and roof to ensure complete extinguishment of the flames.
The residents received a $250 gift card from the California Professional Firefighters Union Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency Program. Due to the gas and electric utilities being disconnected the American Red Cross was contacted to coordinate temporary housing for the five residents, including two adults and three children.
One resident was evaluated for injuries by City of Mountain View Fire Department Paramedics. The resident declined transportation and treatment at a local hospital. The fire was extinguished with no injuries. The Mountain View Police Department provided traffic control for two hours while fire units and equipment were on the scene.
The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation. The estimated damage to the contents and structure is $200,000.
