Arrest Made in Mountain View Shooting

23-year-old man shot in early morning hours of Saturday, Dec. 14

Mountain View, Calif. - An East Palo Alto man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of another man early Saturday morning.

At around 2:05 a.m. this morning, Mountain View Police dispatchers received a call that a man had been shot and was laying on the ground in the 400 block of Sierra Vista Avenue. Officers arrived at the scene and located a 23-year-old male shot in the roadway. The victim sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. We are not naming the victim at this time.

The suspect fled the scene prior to officers arriving. 

After a thorough investigation, MVPD detectives identified the suspect as Hector Christopher Chavez. With the assistance of the San Mateo County SWAT Team, Chavez was located and arrested at around 8:15 p.m. in the 2700 block of Fordham Street in East Palo Alto. He will be booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for attempted murder. Chavez is a 24-year-old Hispanic resident of East Palo Alto. 

There are no outstanding suspects.
