Celebrate Shoreline 40th Anniversary |
|
|
The community is invited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Shoreline at Mountain View regional park by taking a journey through the regional park’s past, present and future at a one-day event in October. Shoreline opened to the public in 1983, with much of the acreage located over a closed landfill. Today, Mountain View’s 750-acre wildlife refuge and recreational area is considered a treasured place in the middle of Silicon Valley.
The family-friendly festivities will take place 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15 at Shoreline, which is located at 3070 N. Shoreline Blvd. The event will include:
- Live music with headliner Petty Theft (Tom Petty cover band) and children's musician Martin and the Green Guitar.
- Food, carnival games, photo booth.
- Antique vehicle displays.
- Community art project.
- Interactive and educational booths along with self-guided tours.
Here are a few tips for enjoying the Shoreline celebration:
- Parking lots inside the regional park will be closed during the event.
- Parking will be available in lots along Shoreline Boulevard near the park entrance.
- Free shuttle service will be provided from 10:45 a.m.-5 p.m. on a continuous basis.
- No dogs or domesticated animals are allowed inside the park.
- No drones are allowed.
At the celebration, event goers will learn about the history of the Shoreline Regional Park Community, which Shoreline at Mountain View is a part of, and why it was established as a Special Park District by the state legislature in 1969. They will discover Shoreline's transformation from an auto wrecking yard, a landfill and a hog farm into the recreational and environmental jewel we know and love today. They will also find out about the vision of the Shoreline Community, which will bring forth dynamic, new neighborhoods containing housing, retail establishments, city and educational facilities, and new parks while preserving its natural heritage. Celebrate Shoreline is sponsored by the City, Shoreline Regional Park Community and Live Nation.
