|
|
The City of Mountain View has now received State of California approval of its updated Housing Element.
In a letter received by the City on Friday, May 26, the State Department of Housing and Community Development deemed the Housing Element to be “in substantial compliance” with state law.
The City Council adopted the 2023-2031 Housing Element on Tuesday, April 11. The Housing Element is a state-mandated plan showing how the City can accommodate its required Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA) of over 11,000 new units over the next eight years.
The adopted Housing Element is the outcome of over two years of work. It includes programs supporting affordable housing production, preservation, tenant protections, fair housing, homelessness prevention and many more.

On June 13, the City Council will review the Google North Bayshore Master Plan in the North Bayshore Precise Plan area, which includes the SEIR (Subsequent Environmental Impact Report), Master Plan and related elements, along with a 30-year Development Agreement.
The Master Plan encompasses approximately 153 acres of land and includes approximately 3.11 million square feet of office space (of which 1.3 million square feet will be net new office), 7,000 residential units, with about seven acres of land allocated for 15% affordable units, 289,000 square feet for active ground floor uses, including neighborhood retail and community space, 26 acres for public parks and publicly accessible private open space and a 4.1-acre site for a future school.
In addition to the Master Plan, the project proposes a 30-year development agreement that includes public benefits totaling $18.5 million. Additionally, the Council will also approve the price and terms for an option to lease Lot C near the Shoreline Amphitheater to the developer for parking. City Lifts Stage 2 Water Shortage Emergency Condition |
|
|
Outdoor watering schedule removed; responsible water use encouraged.
The City of Mountain View Stage 2 Water Shortage Emergency, which was put into effect on June 28, 2022, has been rescinded.
The City Council’s recent action lifts the most restrictive water conservation measures, including no longer limiting outdoor irrigation to two days per week citywide.
As of April 2023, water supply conditions have improved significantly with the statewide snowpack exceeding 250% and many reservoirs reaching historic high levels. In addition, City residents and businesses saved 677 million gallons of potable water since the drought was initially declared in Santa Clara County on June 15, 2021.
Although this most recent water shortage emergency is officially over, the City supports long-term water use efficiency efforts.
