Tennessee Valley Road Reopened: Update from Supervisor Kate Sears

Supervisor Kate Sears Announces
The Reopening of Tennessee Valley Road

December 23, 2014, San Rafael, CA

Supervisor Kate Sears is happy to announce that Tennessee Valley Road in Tamalpais Valley is now reopened. The road was closed on Tuesday, December 16th by the Marin County Department of Public Works (DPW) when a landslide made the road impassable, necessitating emergency repairs to stabilize and repair the hillside and reopen the road.

In consultation with the National Park Service (NPS), the Miwok Livery Stables owner/operator, and the Marin Humane Society, the Department of Public Works road crew worked diligently to stabilize the hillside and reopen the road to two-way traffic.

Opening this roadway was a priority for Marin County. In addition to serving residences on its initial sections, Tennessee Valley Road provides access to popular Golden Gate National Recreation Area trailheads and to the Miwok Livery Stables, with 42 horses in residence.

Supervisor Sears extends special thanks to Marin County Public Works Director Raul Rojas, the DPW road crew and the above mentioned agencies for swift collaboration to provide for the horses and to bring this roadway back into service so quickly. “Southern Marin residents showed the depth of their concern for the safety and wellbeing of others, including the horses at the Miwok Stables,” said Supervisor Sears. “In spite of sometimes heavy rains and juggling a host of weather related challenges at locations throughout the County, Public Works came through, as promised.”

All of our recent weather challenges point up the importance of staying informed and being prepared. Please sign up for Supervisor Kate Sears’ District Three news .
