Marin County Board of Supervisors is looking for qualified individuals to serve on Marin County Assessment Appeals Boards
San Rafael, CA - The purpose of the two
Marin County Assessment Appeals Boards is to hear appeals by property
owners of assessments by the County Assessor. Hearings commence the
third Monday in July and continue until all appeals are heard. In
recent years, the caseload of the Appeals Boards has necessitated
appeals hearings about every four weeks, which are heard alternately by
the two Boards, and may include additional meetings related to
deliberations and written Findings of Fact. The functions of these
Boards are State mandated.
The State Legislature has enacted specific eligibility
requirements for Assessment Appeals Board members since many people
have limited experience in complex appraisal matters. No person shall
be qualified for appointment who has, within 3 years, been an employee
of an assessor's office. Members must have a minimum of five years'
professional experience in this state as one of the following:
certified public accountant or public accountant, licensed real estate
broker, attorney, property appraiser accredited by a nationally
recognized professional organization, property appraiser certified by
the Office of Real Estate Appraisers, or property appraiser certified
by the State Board of Equalization. Applicants must file documentation of qualifying experience with their application to the Clerk of the Board.
Additional information about the Marin County
Assessment Appeals Boards and California Assessment Appeals Boards in
general is available on the County website and on the State Board of Equalization website.
Persons interested in applying for these positions can apply online,
or contact the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, Suite 329, 3501
Civic Center Drive, San Rafael, California 94903, at the phone number
listed above, to obtain an application form.
