Sir Francis Drake Boulevard Update

As anyone who uses Sir Francis Drake Blvd must surely have noticed, there have been multiple occasions over the course of the past year and a half in which vehicles have hit the curb and damaged the post and cable fencing that runs from SFD between Eliseo Drive and El Portal. These have all been “hit and run” accidents – e.g., no report to law enforcement and presumedly solo vehicle incidents. We believe the incidents occurred in the evening.

The County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is in the process of implementing near term fixes (see below) and is investigating alternatives to the current fencing for a long-term solution.

In the near term, expect to see new roadway striping and installation of reflective delineators to help with visibility along the stretch of SFD just west of Eliseo Drive where the roadway transitions to accommodate a bus pull-out. In-kind replacement fencing will be installed along the damaged sections of fencing between El Portal Drive and Eliseo.

DPW will provide an update on the long-term fencing solution in January, along with information on the long awaited new street lighting and the drought delayed landscaping which (fingers crossed) will be installed spring/summer 2023.

Please feel free to reach out to my office with any questions or concerns.
