Marin County COVID-19 Status Update: October 29, 2021 

 

The Marin County COVID-19 Status Update is published weekdays and as needed to share important news and resources related to the COVID-19 pandemic and to keep the local economy running. We remain here for you.  

 

 

Indoor Face Covering Mandate to Lift in Public Places

Marin has reached an important milestone: Effective at noon Monday November 1, Marin County Public Health will lift a local mask mandate, which required everyone to wear face coverings in indoor public places. 

 

This mandate has been in effect since August 2 and was part of part of a Bay Area-wide public health response to combat the surge of COVID-19 cases due to the Delta variant.  

 

Bay Area counties established common criteria for lifting county-level mask mandates, and three benchmarks were created that recognizing counties would need to achieve in order to remove restrictions.  

 

Marin County met all three of the criteria today, October 29: 

 

  1. Marin’s overall vaccination rate is above 80%. 
  1. Hospitalizations have declined and remained low. 
  1. Marin has maintained 21 consecutive days of moderate (“yellow”) level data on the CDC’s Community Transmission Tracker. 

 

  

Marin County Public Health Officer Dr. Matt Willis said he will continue to strongly urge residents to keep wearing masks indoors. 

 

“Face covering has been and will remain a critical tool for preventing spread of the virus,” Willis said. “The mandate helped get us through the fourth wave, but as the local picture improves, we’re shifting from a legal mandate to local recommendation. This is part of the process of tiptoeing back toward normalcy.” 

 

Marin’s change does not impact face covering requirements issued by the State of California including for unvaccinated individuals, school settings, businesses, or organizations requiring face coverings by policy. In addition, some businesses may choose to continue requiring face coverings indoors for everyone, including those who are vaccinated. For example, Marin County Board of Supervisors will require face coverings for all in-person participants, regardless of vaccination status, beginning at its first hybrid board meeting Tuesday, November 2. 

Residents are asked to continue respecting those requirements by carrying and being prepared to wear face covering while in public.

Vaccination Opportunities in Marin 

Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, and Pfizer COVID-19 booster shots are now available at all Marin County Public Health vaccine clinics. Third doses for immunocompromised residents are also available.  

 

There are numerous free COVID-19 vaccination opportunities taking place in Marin County for those wishing to receive a booster, third dose, or to complete their initial vaccination series. Advance online appointments are strongly encouraged. All clinics are available to anyone 12 & older. Our community has done a remarkable job at reducing the spread of COVID-19, thanks to those who have gotten fully vaccinated. We appreciate you doing your part.

  • Local pharmacies like CVS, RiteAid, and others offer same-day vaccine appointments.         
  • Marin County Public Health has developed an online form for requesting a no-cost visit from the mobile vaccination team. This form was designed to make it even easier for all residents to be fully vaccinated.   

    Its intended use is for:          
  • Businesses can request pop-up vaccination clinics at the workplace to vaccinate employees.          
  • Homebound individuals and their loved ones can request a visit to the home for vaccination.          
  • Hospitals and healthcare providers can make a home vaccination request on behalf of their patients.          
  • Long-term care facilities can request on-site mobile vaccination units for staff and residents.
