Corrected Version of Marin Catholic Design Review Update

This communication is an update/correction to the e-news sent out last week regarding Marin Catholic’s Design Review for mobile lighting on the school’s field. The information erroneously indicated that the proposed seasonal hours (Monday – Friday) between 5 and 7pm, from November through March, have been allowed by the County since 2016, when it should have read that the same seasonal hours were approved since 2020. See below for corrected version.
Marin Catholic is currently requesting Design Review approval to continue to deploy four mobile lighting units on the school’s athletic field for after-school sports practice during winter months. The proposal will maintain the same type and configuration of lights, and seasonal hours that have been permitted by the County since 2020.
The seasonal hours (Monday – Friday) between 5 and 7pm, from November through March for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons, were approved via a Temporary Use Permit issued on December 18, 2020. Prior to this, there was a Temporary Use Permit issued on November 15, 2018 which permitted seasonal hours (Monday – Friday) between 5 and 7pm for November through December 2018, and November through December 2019.
The current application to replace the Temporary Use Permit with a Design Review approval has been submitted in response to a request by the County. The County has asked that the school apply for future permitting of the mobile-light system through a Design Review permit due to changes in the County’s zoning ordinance (development code).
A decision on the application will be issued administratively by the Planning Division between August 23, 2021 and September 12, 2021.
