EMERGENCY SAFETY PROJECT ON STATE ROUTE 1
BETWEEN WEST CALIFORNIA DRIVE AND PANORAMIC HIGHWAY

MARIN COUNTY– In an ongoing effort to improve safety along State Route 1 in Marin County, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be doing roadway repair work for the next three to four months. The work consists of the construction of a retaining wall and reconstruction of the roadway.

Closure of the area behind the temporary concrete barriers (including the closed southbound lane) is necessary to provide space for heavy equipment and to allow contractor to construct a wall supported on concrete piles.

There will be one way traffic controls on State Route 1 (Shoreline Highway) with flaggers directing traffic during daylight hours and a temporary automated signal system for evenings, holidays and weekends when the contractor is not working. The signal system has sensors and will be activated when vehicles approach the area. For bicyclists, special push buttons are in place to activate the signals. Caltrans anticipates the delay time for motorists will be approximately five minutes.

The temporary signals for one-way traffic control will be activated in the afternoon of Wednesday, February 15th and remain activated for the next 3-4 months.

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the area and please “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
