Video: COVID-19 Update to the Board of Supervisors
Earlier today, Public Health Officer Dr. Matt Willis provided a COVID-19 response update to the Marin County Board of Supervisors. In his talk, he reviewed current COVID-19 data and the reasons why Marin is not advancing to the yellow Tier 4 in the Blueprint for a Safer Economy.
Blueprint Update: Marin Remains in Orange Tier
Today, California Department of Public Health (CDPH) provided another update on the Blueprint for a Safer Economy, a statewide plan for reducing COVID-19 and keeping Californians healthy and safe.
Marin remains in the orange Tier 3 until at least May 4. For a County to advance to a less restrictive tier, it must (1) have been in the current tier for a minimum of three weeks; and (2) meet criteria for the next less restrictive tier for all three measures for the prior two consecutive weeks to progress to the next tier.
“This is what the Blueprint was designed to do, to ensure a county moves forward only when we see a reliable trend of decreased transmission,” Willis said. “When a small uptick in cases is enough to keep us where we are, it’s a sign we’re not ready.”
The following table outlines the requirements for case rates, test positivity rates, and quartile test positivity rates for each tier status, as well as CDPH’s April 20 assessment for Marin:
You can track Marin’s progress online. Data is updated each Tuesday afternoon to reflect CDPH’s calculations.
Rental Assistance Program Proving Popular
In three weeks, the County has distributed $468,770 to 48 households as part of a rental assistance program during COVID-19. The distribution is in addition to resources provided during the first year of the pandemic; that was funded by the County and the Marin Community Foundation. In this session of economic hardship relief, there is $16 million to distribute as part of the federal Consolidated Appropriations Act, intended to prevent evictions and homelessness.
Landlord meetings take place every other Thursday evening. The applications for tenants and landlords are available on the County’s rental assistance website in a variety of languages.
