If you are reading dire and worrisome news reports about our changing climate and wondering, what, if anything, an individual can do about it, here's your chance to take action. But, you need to act quickly as the comment period closes on August 31, 2020.
Our local Drawdown: Marin Strategic Plan needs your input. This is your chance to read, weigh in on proposed solutions and initiatives, and help direct the course of future actions, right here in Marin where we live, work and recreate.
The Countywide Drawdown: Marin initiative was launched in October 2017 by the Marin County Board of Supervisors and coordinated by the County's Sustainability Team. Planners have worked with towns, cities, community-based organizations, and individuals to develop projects, policies and programs that dramatically reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, increase community resilience, and address racial and social equity.
During a two-year planning process, over 150 volunteers to identify 29 local climate change solutions and presented their ideas to the Drawdown: Marin Executive Steering Committee. The Drawdown: Marin Strategic Plan summarizes all 29 solutions, necessary equity work and initiatives, community empowerment and engagement priorities, and governance and funding frameworks and needs for 2021-2030.
View and download the Strategic Plan and appendices at www.drawdownmarin.org.
We invite and encourage your feedback. As you review the materials, please consider the following:
- What do you think of the solutions to address climate change?
- How can we best engage you moving forward?
- Does the plan excite you and make you want to act to solve climate change?
You can submit feedback on the Strategic plan by emailing your comments to drawdown@marincounty.org. The public comment period ends August 31, 2020.
After comments are received, a revised plan will be presented to the Marin County Board of Supervisors later this year in conjunction with the County’s 2020 Climate Action Plan Update.
A recent news release, available on the County of Marin website, highlighted the 7 solutions endorsed by the Executive Steering Committee for immediate implementation, and described the county's commitment to climate action planning.
I invite you to join the movement, learn more and participate in meaningful, local climate action by visiting the Drawdown: Marin webpages and make a pledge to act on climate change. Let me know what actions you're taking to reduce your own climate impacts by writing me at ksears@marincounty.org.
