ANNOUNCEMENT OF FEDERAL FUNDING DEDICATED TO DISTRICT 4

Dear District 4 Resident:

I am happy to share with you some news on recent Federal projects that have been funded for District 4 improvements. A special thank you to Congressman Jared Huffman for his continued support. And thank all of you who have contacted my office to stress the importance of the improvement of the infrastructure in District 4.

DREDGING OF THE SAN RAFAEL CANAL

The Army Corps of Engineers has dedicated $1.3 million for planning and environmental work for the San Rafael Canal, one of Marin’s busiest recreational and commercial waterways located in the East San Rafael portion of District 4.

It’s been 17 years since the tidal creek was last fully dredged and it is in dire need of a full dredging. The longer maintenance dredging is delayed, the higher the cost climbs. Years of built-up silt and mud have already reduced the San Rafael Canal’s depth, limiting navigation. This threatens the health of our local businesses, public safety, fire protection, and why I have been actively working to amplify the importance of this long-needed dredge.

Since 2018, my office has partnered with local business leaders, the City of San Rafael, Supervisor Damon Connolly, Congressman Jared Huffman, and Senator Diane Feinstein to lobby the Army Corps of Engineers for the cost of this much needed dredge. The complete dredging of the canal is expected to cost around $12 million. However, getting the pre-dredging planning and environmental work completed is a critical first step toward getting on the Corps’ work list and getting the job done.

IMPROVEMENT OF PT. REYES ROADS

The US Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration awarded Ghilotti Construction of Santa Rosa, a contract for $26 million to improve Francis Drake Boulevard in the national park. Rehabilitation and reconstruction is included in 12 miles of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard from Pierce Point Road to Chimney Rock/Lighthouse Roads. The County of Marin will provide a local match of approximately 11% and an additional 3.3 million dollars to enable the project to move forward (if approved by the Board of Supervisors on March 10th). This project is expected to be completed over two years at a total cost of $42 million.

We would like to thank the National Park Service, Federal Highways staff, and County DPW for helping make this possible.

As always, please contact my office for additional information or if we can help you with anything.

Sincerely,

Dennis Rodoni, District 4
