Update from Kate
High Tides Are Here!
Now Through January 14: Plan Ahead for Safe Driving and Parking
Please Share Widely:
Above: The Manzanita Park & Ride lot in Southern Marin (entry shown on left) is plagued by drainage problems because it is so close to sea level, and high tides sometimes prompt lot closures.
Happy New Year -- and welcome winter King Tide and high tide events!
This Update covers the tides expected now through this coming weekend.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts high tides at or above 6.4 feet in the morning/mid-day hours on January 9, 10, 11 and 12. If rain or wind enters the forecast on these days, it could exacerbate the flooding.
This means that we need to pay attention to where we drive and where we park! Caltrans has temporarily closed the lower half of the Manzanita Park & Ride lot in Mill Valley and it will remain closed until Tuesday, January 14 due to the expected high tide flooding. Please avoid this and other low-lying areas, and #BeWorkZoneAlert.
For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans QuickMap at http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or follow Caltras on Twitter at https://twitter.com/caltransd4.
A tide chart is included below for reference. Please consult the NOAA daily tide updates here. (Double check that the station number is set to "9414819 - Sausalito, Coe Dock" as the most relevant for the Sausalito-Mill Valley waterfront area.)
