In Effort to Promote Wildfire Safety, FIRESafe Marin to Host Free Home Hardening Workshops for Homeowners & Building Industry Professionals on November 19, 2019
Please Share Widely:
Given the frequency and devastating impact of wildfires in California, many are seeking ways to prepare for the possibility of such an event occurring in Marin County. More than 30,000 homes have been destroyed by wildfire in California in the past five years, leading many homeowners to consider the option of home hardening as a means to protect their property.
On Tuesday, November 19 at Embassy Suites (101 McInnis Parkway in San Rafael), FIRESafe Marin will host free workshops on the topic of home hardening:
- For building industry professionals, a session will be held from 2:00-4:00pm.
-
Homeowners can attend a subsequent session, from 6:00-8:00pm.
- Attendees of both sessions are welcome to join the Marin County Fire Department at 5:00pm for a live burn demonstration at the Marin County Fairgrounds (a short walk from Embassy Suites) where firefighters will demonstrate how fire-resistant materials compare with ordinary construction materials when exposed to flame.
Building scientists and wildfire experts will share information on what makes a building vulnerable to fire and how to reduce the risk that a home will ignite. Product manufacturers and installers will discuss the positive impact that California's Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Building Code has on protecting homes from wildfire.
If you know any contractors or homeowners who may be interested in learning about this topic, please share this information using the "SHARE" button above or by forwarding this email. You can also stay up to date on this event and others by following FIRESafe Marin on Facebook.
These workshops are just one component of a much larger plan for wildfire prevention and community preparedness. I will also continue sharing information and resources. See below for links to stay engaged with my office.
