Wood Stove Rebate Opportunity for Southern Marin Residents

Priority for Sausalito and Marin City Areas Heavily Affected by Wood Smoke

_____________________________

Ever thought you might be an air quality hero?

Here's a rebate program you may qualify for to replace or remove your wood stove. But hurry because the program ends when the funding is spent.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) recently launched a new rebate program for wood stove removal and/or replacement. The BAAQMD rebate amount will range from $750 to $12,000 depending on your specific project and address.

Winter wood smoke accounts for more than 30% of particulate matter air pollution. In addition, it's the second largest source of dioxins (highly toxic compounds) in Bay Area air. Unfortunately, the effects of wood smoke on our health and the environmental are becoming increasingly severe. But there's good news! By removing and replacing wood stoves in Southern Marin homes, residents can have a positive impact, improving air quality here and in the region.

40% of the program funding has been prioritized for highly impacted residents, including low-income residents, those living in areas highly affected by wood smoke including Sausalito and Marin City, and households whose wood-burning device is their sole source of heat. NOTE:There have been very few applications from highly impacted residents thus far. If you fit into this category, apply now.

For more information and to access the online application, go to the BAAQMD website. Applicants may also apply to the County of Marin's Wood Stove rebate program and the Western Propane Gas Association Rebate for propane inserts for additional funding. Project options include replacing a woodstove or fireplace with an electric heat pump or a natural gas or propane fueled device, or decommissioning a fireplace (rendering it inoperable).
