At Marin’s Board Workshop About

Preserving Housing Affordability

If the topic of conversation isn’t about traffic, it’s probably about the worrisome surge in prices experienced of late in our local and regional housing market.

What can we do together about this vexing challenge? How do we keep Marin’s historic openness to others and assure the lively community character evident in each of our 11 cities and towns and in the unincorporated areas? What measures can we take so that older adults, young people and our workforce can continue to live here or, in some cases, find affordable places to live right here where they teach our children, provide public safety, serve in our shops and businesses, and run public and private agencies?

The Marin County Board of Supervisors will hold a public workshop on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 2:30 PM* to continue the discussion of potential solutions to prevent displacement and preserve housing affordability. The Staff Report for this workshop is now available on the County’s Affordable Housing webpage at www.marincounty.org/depts/cd/divisions/planning/housing/affordable-housing.

This workshop is the second of a three-part discussion that began on October 13 and will continue on December 15, 2015. The November 17 workshop is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM* and will address policy options related to preservation, conversion and new construction. The December 15 workshop is a special evening meeting scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM*, and will address policy options related to tenant protections.

The workshops will be held in the Marin County Board of Supervisors Chambers (Room 330, Administration Building), 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael, California, where all are invited to appear and be heard. The agendas for the workshops will be made available on the Board of Supervisors meeting webpage prior to each meeting date.

Written comments regarding these workshops should be submitted to Alisa Stevenson, Planner, prior to the relevant meeting date at astevenson@marincounty.org or 3501 Civic Center Drive #308, San Rafael, CA 94903.

*Please note that the proposed workshop start times are estimates only and may be subject to change.
