Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Showcases Critical Programs During Public Health Week

(April 6 - 12)

Events Held Throughout the Week Highlight Community Health, Prevention, and Action

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health will join health departments across the nation in kicking off National Public Health Week, observed April 6 through April 12, 2026. This year’s theme, “Ready. Set. Action!” highlights the importance of taking meaningful steps to protect and improve community health.

“The past year has been challenging, yet together, we have continued to advance health and well-being across our communities,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. “As we mark National Public Health Week, we uplift the dedication, skill, and commitment of everyone in our public health family. Every day, their efforts make a real difference, helping our communities thrive, stay safe, and secure resources needed for well-being.”

“This year’s theme reminds us that public health begins in our neighborhoods and in the work we do together,” Ferrer added. “It is our collaboration, care, and persistence that prevent disease, promote wellness, and create the conditions for everyone to live healthier lives. Public health does not happen by accident. It requires all of us - policymakers, community partners, organizations, and residents — working together to strengthen prevention and ensure that every person has the opportunity to be healthy.”

Throughout the week, Public Health will host a series of events across Los Angeles County that reflect the breadth of public health work, from emergency preparedness and children’s health to small business support and protecting workers. These events highlight efforts to strengthen prevention, expand access to resources, and build healthier, more resilient communities.
