With Harbor Interfaith Executive Director/CEO Tahia Hayslet and Development Director Dr. Kay Ramsey.
Harbor Interfaith Services has stepped up time and time again to partner with my office to house people in need, and this week I was glad to join their 50th anniversary celebration.
My longtime staffer, Ivan Sulic, delivered the keynote address. He shared his experiences with the organization, including when he was a child, and he and his mom fell on hard times. Harbor Interfaith opened their doors to them.
Today, Ivan is my Homeless Services Deputy and has dedicated his career to helping others who are going through the same thing he did as a kid. It’s that experience that gives him the incredible compassion and heart he brings to the job every day.
Our gun buyback in South Whittier is today!
If you have unwanted firearms at home, come exchange them for gift cards. You can get some help with your holiday shopping and make your neighborhood a little bit safer, all at once.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without tamales—so my office is partnering with Amapola and Northgate Market to host tamal kit giveaways for Fourth District residents on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Get in the holiday spirit at our LA County parks with a special “Holiday in the Park” event, where you and your family can come enjoy performances, crafts, making edible treats, and more.
LA County is considering the future of Measure J, which voters approved in 2020 to allocate funding for community services rather than incarceration.
To learn more and share your thoughts, you can attend a listening session in South Whittier on Dec. 9, or in Long Beach on Dec. 15.
Thumper is a beautiful 3-year-old Siamese cat who is waiting at our Downey Animal Care Center to meet his furever family.
If you think Thumper could be the one to complete your family, you can find out more about him here or visit him during the Downey Care Center's open hours.
Whether you take home Thumper or you find another furry friend, please do your part to help control the pet population and have your pets spayed or neutered.
