LA General Medical Center Receives Prestigious NACo 2025 Achievement Award for Paving a Brighter Future for Nursing

Los Angeles, CA – August 14, 2025 – Los Angeles General Medical Center (LA General) is proud to announce it has been named a 2025 Achievement Award Winner by the National Association of Counties (NACo) for its innovative program, Paving a Brighter Future for Nursing.

This national recognition honors LA General’s comprehensive Nurse Residency initiative, designed to support new graduate Registered Nurses (RNs) with less than 12 months of experience. The program provides structured training, mentorship, and hands-on clinical experience to enhance the transition into professional practice while improving retention and workforce stability.

Since its inception, the program has educated over 550+ nurses, achieving retention rates as high as 100% in recent cohorts. In addition to its workforce benefits, the program has contributed to significant cost savings by reducing nurse turnover and optimizing staffing efficiency, reinforcing its value to both patients and the healthcare system.

“Receiving the NACo Achievement Award underscores the dedication and excellence of our nursing team,” said Nancy Blake, CNO of LA General. “We are proud to cultivate the next generation of nurses who will continue to deliver exceptional care, improve operational efficiency, and make a lasting impact in our community.”

In addition to the NACo honor, LA General has recently been recognized with the Bronze Eagle Award for the same program at the 37th Annual County Productivity and Quality Awards, highlighting the hospital’s consistent leadership in healthcare innovation, equity, and workforce development.
