Dear Neighbor,
Our local economy and communities benefit from more residents having equitable access to employment opportunities – this must include our fellow residents who have served their time and are ready to work. Last year, I presented a motion with Supervisor Solis that the Board of Supervisors passed to create a Fair Chance Ordinance for our unincorporated communities that is aligned with the California Fair Chance Act (FCA) also known as Ban the Box.
Recently, the County’s Department of Economic Opportunity led a free virtual training in partnership with Root & Rebound and the County’s Department of Justice Care and Opportunities and Consumer & Business Affairs for justice-system impacted residents to know their rights, employer responsibilities, and where to access critical job search support.
If you missed it, you can watch the full recording of the workshop here: https://bit.ly/LA-Fair-Chance. Please share this with fellow residents who might benefit from this important information.
To learn more about the County’s Fair Chance Ordinance and its impact on workers and employers in our unincorporated communities, visit bit.ly/DEOFairChance.
Sincerely, Holly J. Mitchell Supervisor, Second District

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved my motion with Supervisor Hahn to provide an on-site clinician and/or licensed social workers at 10 libraries with the highest reported needs for additional expertise in serving unhoused residents (libraries will be selected in each of the five Supervisorial Districts). This pilot program will start in June and take place at the Carson, Lennox, and Willowbrook libraries in the 2nd District.
