Extension of Post-PREP COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

Background: The purpose of this alert is to inform pharmacy providers that coverage for COVID-19 vaccines under the Public Readiness Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act has been extended through December 31, 2029. The alert that was previously posted on December 10, 2024 titled Post-PREP COVID-19 Vaccine Policy Update will be archived. 

Novavax Vaccine: Important Reminders

Novavax doses that expired on October 31, 2024, should be removed from vaccine storage units, reported as expired waste in myCAvax and returned to McKesson, per usual.

Novavax will NOT be receiving a shelf-life extension for doses that have an expiry on November 30, 2024. Upon expiration, doses will need to be returned to McKesson.

Due to the short expiry dates for inventories of Novavax, CDC will not ship any additional doses. Therefore, ordering for Novavax is turned off for both Vaccines for Children (VFC) and CA Bridge Access Program (CA BAP) temporarily until additional doses are received at McKesson. Any unapproved order in myCAvax will be rejected.

An Expiration Look-Up Tool is available for providers to check for most up-to-date information about expiry administration.
