The holidays are just around the corner—so now is a good time to get your flu shot and the updated 2024-2025 COVID booster if you haven’t already.
I got my latest shots at First Thursday this week in San Pedro, and there are plenty of other opportunities to get these vaccines. Here are some of the upcoming clinics that are being hosted by the LA County Public Health Department:

-
Thursday, Nov. 14, 1-3pm: Leland R. Weaver Library, 4035 Tweedy Blvd., South Gate
-
Friday, Nov. 15, 1-3pm: Clifton M. Brakensiek Library, 9945 Flower St., Bellflower
-
Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1-3pm: Artesia Library, 18801 Elaine Ave., Artesia

At this week’s board meeting, I was the lone dissenting vote against a plan for the County to purchase a downtown skyscraper for $205 million. By moving forward with this purchase, LA County has set in motion a plan to close the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration and move the heart of County government away from the Civic Center.
This plan, which will use $66 million in funds that had been set aside for upgrading and seismic retrofitting of the Hall of Administration, is the most closed-door, off-the-record plan to come into fruition that I have witnessed in all my years as an elected official. No one in the public was made aware of this plan until last month.
I went by the proposed building the other day and I felt nothing. It is a soul-less building in the middle of a bunch of tall buildings. That isn’t what County Government should look like. I don’t think we need to be in a skyscraper, we need to be near the people.

Pedro Pet Pals are doing such important work with our Los Angeles County Animal Care to take care of shelter pets and help them get adopted. I stopped by their office this week and gave them $25,000 that will help them buy a new van to transport pets to adoption events, where they can find their forever homes.
Thank you to the team at Pedro Pet Pals for all the work you do for our shelter pets.

The LA County Assessor's Office is hosting a Homeowners Resource Fair today at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center, where homeowners can get help and learn more about Prop. 19, the death of a property owner, misfortune and calamity, and disabled veterans' exemptions.
My next gun buyback event is one week away. If you have any unwanted guns in your home, come by and exchange them for gift cards, 100% anonymously.
Every gun that's taken off the streets is a gun that can't be fired accidentally or stolen and used in a crime. Come help make your community safer.
The Gateway Cities Council of Governments is hosting a Youth Filmmakers Fest—if you know a young aspiring filmmaker in the Gateway Cities and Southeast LA, please share this opportunity to showcase their work and earn scholarships while they're at it.
Fall is in full swing, and our LA County Parks are celebrating with Harvest Festival events all across the county that include food tasting, dancing, music, crafts, children’s story corners and family games.
Need help with your Thanksgiving meal this year? My office has partnered with Assemblymember Miguel Santiago and the City of Commerce to host a drive-thru Thanksgiving meal giveaway again this year at Commerce City Hall.
Our LA County Aging & Disabilities Department is hosting a series of workshops to help people learn how to protect themselves from scams and fraud.
The next workshop will be held this Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Los Nietos Community and Senior Center.
