SOLA TAILGATE EXTRAVAGANZA
By Dymesha Wheeler
Despite the 49ers missing out on the Super Bowl Trophy, the South Los Angeles Football League (SFL) is on fire, setting goals and clinching victories one FPM at a time! On February 27, 2024, SOLA lit the field with its annual tailgate extravaganza, packed with mouth-watering food, thrilling games, and fabulous prizes. Meoshay Glasby, the powerhouse Division Administrator of SOLA, was asked the burning question – Why Tailgate? Her electrifying response? "We're not just celebrating our past, we're embracing our present and charging towards a future of greatness!" In just three exhilarating months, the SFL has rewritten the record books, achieving feats that SOLA has never seen before. Glasby says we have shifted our priorities to impacting the people (internal/external) and the program, with the people standing front and center. By focusing on the people, gauging their understanding/knowledge and lending support where needed, we can't help but be successful.
SOLA has adopted a strategic approach, treating FPM's as opponents and devising strategies to tackle them quarter by quarter with the sole aim of securing victory. The season kicked off with SOLA focusing on strengthening its core through mini training sessions known as 'Pop in/out sessions.' These sessions included NRPS/ROFO, Financial, TXT Pagepro, and 4007.5. trainings.
In addition to these sessions, SOLA has also implemented the following strategies.
- Set clear goals and expectations.
- Continued strengthening of our Leadership team with monthly summits and weekly messaging on building trust, team building, influence/negation and conflict management.
- Focus on fun with clerical trivia games to increase departmental knowledge and create friendly competition.
- Daily messaging that provides focus, work tips, strategies and tactics.
- MIC emails that include tips for wellness, inspiration and motivation.
- Repetition.
All of these strategies and tactics have led to some impressive wins. During quarter 1 of this FFY, SOLA has accomplished the following."
- Reduction in Line 2 cases from 792 to 397
- Distributed collections of $24,622,500
- IWO collections of $17,461,636.00
SOLA aims to maintain its winning streak. When Program Manager Makeda Jackson was asked about their projections for the upcoming quarter, the response was, "All we do is win."
