Supervisor Hahn Will Host Free Tamal Kit Giveaways in Lynwood, South Whittier Tomorrow Ahead of Holidays
400 free kits including masa, corn husks, and chiles will be provided
Los Angeles, CA—Tomorrow, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn will hold two masa giveaway events in the City of Lynwood and in unincorporated South Whittier. Four hundred participants will receive a 10lb bag of fresh tamal masa along with a bag of corn husks and a bag of red chiles secos. Hahn provided a grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Whittier and Pico Rivera for the purchase of the kits from Amapola Market.
“It is officially tamal season in Latino homes and neighborhoods across LA County. For so many families, it would not be Christmas without homemade tamales, so I wanted to make sure that every family, no matter their financial situation, could participate in this beloved and delicious tradition,” said Hahn. “And I’m grateful to Amapola Market for their partnership. They are a treasured part of Christmas dinner for thousands of families in the communities they serve."
In South Whittier, Hahn will also hand out toys to pre-registered low-income families, and will be joined by Amapola Market President & CEO Rolando Pozos for remarks. The Lynwood giveaway will form part of the City of Lynwood's Lynwood Gives event.
