DPSS STAFF NEEDED FOR THE VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Wednesday, December 20, is the deadline for DPSS staff to get IRS-certified and play an important role in assisting low-income families file their tax returns as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.

The VITA Program is a great opportunity to amplify our positive impact on the community and to extend assistance to a large number of individuals and families through various community-based organizations. Since 2005, DPSS volunteers have helped 118 DPSS families file their federal and state income tax returns at no cost, resulting in a total of over $309,000 received in tax refunds, including more than $140,000 Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC).

For the upcoming 2024 tax season, the Department is excited to partner with the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs to provide tax preparation services at multiple locations across the county. 

DPSS staff interested in volunteering for the 2024 VITA Program may email Gricelda Huizar at GriceldaHuizar@dpss.lacounty.gov  and copy Patricia Gonzalez at PatriciaGonzalez@dpss.lacounty.gov  by December 20, 2023.
