Bellflower, CA –Today, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn presented the Los Cerritos YMCA Board of Directors with a $15,000 check to fund their 2nd grade drowning prevention swim program.

“Drowning is a leading cause of death for young children in this country and too many kids in our communities can’t swim,” said Supervisor Hahn. “If we can teach more children how to swim, we are not only going to save lives, but we are also going to introduce kids to an activity they can do their entire lives.”

This issue is particularly special to Supervisor Hahn whose first full-time job was teaching a swim class for babies as young as six months old at a YMCA.

The Los Cerritos YMCA serves Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, and Paramount. Their 2nd grade drowning prevention swim program will start this Spring. The funding from Hahn’s office will help fund the class and support families who cannot afford programming.
