CELEBRATE WORLD REFUGEE DAY

CELEBRATE WORLD REFUGEE DAY IN L.A. COUNTY

The United Nations has designated June 20 as World Refugee Day, a global occasion to recognize the resilience and strength of refugees to raise awareness of their struggles and contributions. Join DPSS and the Refugee Forum of Los Angeles for a free World Refugee Day celebration on Tuesday, June 20, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Gloria Molina Grand Park in downtown L.A.  There will be resources, workshops, live entertainment, and more. Need an interpreter? DPSS offers interpretive services, in-person and over the phone, to all customers, as needed.  Customer Service Representatives can help at the District Office or by contacting the Customer Service Center at (866) 613-3777.



CALWORKS HOME VISITING PROGRAM OFFERS FREE HOME-BASED SUPPORT

DPSS CALWORKS HOME VISITING PROGRAM OFFERING FREE HOME-BASED SUPPORT AND RESOURCES FOR PARENTS

CalWORKs parents who are pregnant or parenting a three-year old or younger child can receive FREE home-based support to help keep their family healthy through various support programs. The program offers a parent educator to assist with parenting support, mental health and medical screenings, referrals to community resources, and tools to help parents and children prepare for school.  Pregnant parents can also receive help through the Family Nurses Program. WINTER PROGRAM OFFERS CONSTRUCTION TRAINING FOR WOMEN

FREE CONSTRUCTION TRAINING FOR WOMEN

Women in Non-Traditional Employment Roles (WINTER) is providing FREE construction career training for women in Los Angeles County.  New orientation classes are held every Friday at 10:00 a.m.  For more information or to attend an orientation, email info@winterwomen.org.

The Children’s Institute invites the community to the Fatherhood Movement on Saturday, June 17, at Ted Watkins Park. Join event ambassador, Superbowl Champion Malik Jackson, in celebration of the important role of fathers and prioritizing mental and physical health. L.A. COUNTY PARKS TO HOST PRIDE AT THE PARK EVENTS

Join the L.A. County Department of Parks and Recreation this June, at 50+ parks for the inaugural Pride at the Park events. These two-hour programs hope to elevate inclusion in parks and recreation programs, while celebrating L.A. County’s diversity. Each park will host a different activity and experience that may range from a picnic, artist experience, concert, sports tournament, dance, and more. Learn more at Pride at the Park.
