More Flexibility for the Monkeypox Vaccine

Patients can now get vaccinated subcutaneously (under the skin) if they request it.

A subcutaneous injection means that the vaccine is given beneath the skin in the upper arm. This method is used for people who are younger than age 18 and people of any age who have had keloid scars. A keloid scar is a thick, raised scar that can form after skin damage, such as a cut, piercing, or surgery.

If you have a concern for keloid scarring or you strongly prefer getting the vaccine subcutaneously, be sure to tell the vaccine provider your preference.
