WHAT:
The program will award 1,000 randomly selected qualifying LA County residents $1,000 a month for three years, which will help enable participants to self-determine the budgetary strategies that will most benefit themselves and their families. The program will be overseen by the County’s Poverty Alleviation Initiative, launched last year to address poverty and income instability among LA County residents, many of whom are working but still unable to make ends meet.
Residents interested in applying can find more information by calling 213-342-1003 or visiting the website at: breathe.lacounty.gov, which includes an interactive map to help determine whether they live in a qualifying community. The enrollment period opens March 31 and the deadline for applications is April 13.
WHEN:
Thursday, March 31 from 10:30am - 11:30am
WHERE:
Community Coalition, 8101 Vermont Ave., Los Angeles 90044
WHY:
LA County residents have been unfavorably impacted by the health and economic pandemic caused by COVID-19, which is one of Breathe: LA County's Guaranteed Income Program’s eligibility requirements. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion authored by Supervisors Holly J. Mitchell and Sheila Kuehl to implement this program to help 1,000 eligible residents in need. This program will be studied by the University of Pennsylvania to explore the impact of guaranteed income programs in supporting individuals
