Outbreaks in K-12 Schools and Programs
Most K-12 cases are not associated with outbreaks, but when 3 or more cases are linked at a school or school-based activity, they are considered to be part of an outbreak. These cases are met with additional resources dedicated to investigating and stopping transmission among students, staff, and communities. Our overall case numbers in schools continue to decrease across LA County, where we had a 54% decrease from the prior week for students, and a 51% decrease for staff. With more than 3,000 schools now open countywide, these are astonishingly low numbers, and this is possible by the hard work of our school community members: staff, students, and families.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is strongly encouraging COVID-19 vaccination for people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to get pregnant now, or might become pregnant in the future to prevent severe illness, death, and adverse pregnancy outcomes from COVID-19.
Although rare, pregnant people infected with COVID-19 during their pregnancy can pass on the virus to their newborn. Studies have affirmed the vaccines’ safety in all stages of pregnancy and the vaccines do not cause any fertility problems.
Resources are available to assist pregnant people and people of childbearing age to get the facts, click here.

LA County’s Temporary Eviction Moratorium Extended
On Tuesday, September 28, the Board of Supervisors voted to extend LA County’s temporary eviction moratorium through January 31, 2022. The updated policy, now renamed the County’s COVID-19 Tenant Protections Resolution, continues to provide a defense against eviction for residential and commercial tenants, while also expanding the owner move-in provisions. LA residents who have fallen behind on their rent during the pandemic, are encouraged to act quickly to apply for the state’s Housing is Key rent relief program in order to secure protection from eviction while the state processes the applications.
