Chair Solis to Join LA County Library to Showcase Newly Refreshed Maywood César Chávez Library at Open House and Vaccine Clinic on July 28

To celebrate the reopening of Maywood César Chávez Library, LA County Library and Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair, Hilda L. Solis, Supervisor to the First District, will host an Open House on Wednesday, July 28, 11 am – 1 pm. The Open House will feature an outdoor activity for children and teens, a walkthrough of the Library’s newly refreshed space, a free vaccine clinic at Maywood City Hall, and special messages from Chair Solis, LA County Library Director Skye Patrick, City of Maywood Mayor Ricardo Lara and members of the local community.

Residents can protect themselves and their loved ones by getting their COVID-19 vaccine at the Open House. Located next door at Maywood City Hall, participants will be able to access Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines for free, regardless of insurance or immigration status. Walk-in participants will be welcomed as long as they are 12 years old and older.

The Library reopened its doors on May 10 for select in-person services as part of the Library’s phased reopening, which followed the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Prior to reopening, the Library refreshed its space to include:

  • New Floorplan & Layout:
    • New circulation desk
    • Dedicated Children’s Area with new storage cabinets
    • New children’s and adults’ computer stations
    • New reading tables
    • New flooring and paint throughout
  •  New technology:
    • 4 Adult computers, 2 Homework Center computers, and 2 Early Learning computers
    • USB/power outlets at all reading tables  
    • New Laptop vending machine with 12 laptops for in-library public use
    • One self-checkout machine
    • Digital display screen
  • Efficiency and compliancy improvements:
    • Energy-efficient LED lighting
  • Updates to the building exterior:
    • New exterior paint
    • New Library exterior signage
    • New landscaping

Maywood César Chávez Library is one of several LA County Library locations currently open for select in-person services. LA County Library has safely reopened its libraries at 75% capacity, while also maintaining 6-feet of physical distance for customers.
