Dear Friends,
It’s now been over a week since we have fully reopened, and it was such a joy seeing people gather and celebrate once again this weekend. After a long 17 months of hard work, this is certainly a moment we have earned.
But our work is not done, and it’s important to remember that the pandemic is still among us. Although our case rates are low, this is by no means guaranteed. In fact, we have seen our positivity rate slightly increase in recent days, and each week we are seeing the Delta variant, the most contagious variant so far, increase here in the County.
Fortunately, we have seen that those who are fully vaccinated – that means the single J&J or BOTH doses for Pfizer and Moderna – are protected against this variant. So let’s continue to do our part by getting vaccinated.
This is even more urgent in our communities of color as only 43% of Black and 51% of Latinx residents age 16 and above have received at least one dose. And there are over one million children under the age of 12 who are not yet eligible and don’t have any protection against this virus.
Throughout this pandemic, we have often seen two very different versions of this County. One in areas of the County with higher COVID rates, notably the Latinx and Black communities, and another where residents were able to safely and comfortably stay at home. The Delta Variant may again create a tale of two counties if residents do not get vaccinated, so let’s get vaccinated and stop that from becoming a reality.
You can visit: VaccinateLACounty.com, FindMyVaxLA.com, or call 833-540-0473 to find a vaccination site near you. You can also drop in to any of our vaccination sites in the First District below. Let's continue on our forward path and enjoy our County's reopening, safely.
Sincerely,
Chair Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
