VPAN Overview:
|
The Veterans Peer Access Network (VPAN) is a Los Angeles County program designed to connect veterans and their families with the services available to them. Program goals are to reduce homelessness, suicide, under-employment, and dramatically increase ease of access to resources and services for vets and their family members.
VPAN Serves:
• All Veterans and MilFam members of every age county-wide
• No specific criteria for time-in-service, service era or discharge status
• Regardless of VA disability rating
• No specific or exclusionary criteria for level of need/care
• No income level requirements
VPAN Offers:
VPAN is staffed by veterans and military family members who provide peer support and linkage to services to their fellow veterans and their family members. In addition to connecting callers with housing, health care, financial, legal and employment advice & assistance, clinical professionals are also available to assist those struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues.

VPAN in Action: A Successful Mission
Last month, a 26 year-old Army veteran experiencing financial distress and severe anxiety contacted VPAN Peer Remi Lafayette (USS Iowa). With his first-born child on the way, the veteran was having difficulty navigating the VA system and was in danger of losing his home. Remi helped to gather vital records and assisted the vet through the process, which ultimately resulted in a direct deposit of $20,000 in backpay. Remi stated, “He should’ve been at 100% years ago.” In addition to the financial award, peers assisted with a plan to reduce anxiety. A referral to Jennifer Delatte with the U.S. Vets Career Development Initiative led to interview prep, resulting in a full time job in security for which he has already been promoted!
